34　aged，elder和elderly

① aged意為“年老的，老的”，表示年歲已高，含有衰弱之意;aged還可表示“……歲的”，常作表語(yǔ)。

She helped take care of her aged grandfather. 她幫助照顧年邁的祖父。

The sick and the aged need our help. 病人和老年人需要我們的幫助。

He was aged six when he went to school. 他6歲上學(xué)。

② elder意為“年紀(jì)較長(zhǎng)的”，指家庭兄弟姐妹之間的年齡較長(zhǎng)者，也可表示一群人中年齡較大者。

My elder brother is a teacher. 我哥哥是個(gè)教師。

③ elderly意為“上了年紀(jì)的，中年以上的”，有雖漸入老境但不失尊嚴(yán)之意。

Her father is getting elderly now and can't walk very fast. 她父親已年邁，不能走得很快。

We should respect elderly people. 我們應(yīng)該尊敬上了年歲的人。
