205　depend on/upon和rely on/upon

① 表示“信賴，依賴”時(shí)，depend on/upon和rely on/upon常可換用。結(jié)構(gòu)為：

depend on/rely on sb./sth.

depend on/rely on sb. to do sth.

We can depend on/rely on her words. 我們可以相信她的話。

He depends on/relies on you to help him. 他依靠你幫助他。

How could you depend on his promise？你怎么能相信他的許諾呢？

The girl no longer depends upon her parents. 這小女孩已經(jīng)不依靠父母了。

rely on 語氣比depend on重，多以人作主語。

A man should rely upon his own powers in the struggle of life. 一個(gè)人在生活的斗爭(zhēng)中應(yīng)當(dāng)依靠自身的力量。

② depend on還可以表示“以……而定，由……而定，取決于”，這時(shí)不可用rely on。

It depends on yourself. 這取決于你自己。

Good health depends on good food，exercise and getting enough sleep. 身體的健康要靠良好的食物、鍛煉和充足的睡眠。

③ depend用于It all depends或That depends結(jié)構(gòu)中，意為“很難說，得看情況”，這時(shí)不可用rely。
