576　refuse，decline和reject

① refuse指不肯做某事或接受某物，語(yǔ)氣較重，態(tài)度堅(jiān)決。

He resolutely refused their bribe. 他斷然拒絕接受他們的賄賂。

The boy refused to go home. 這男孩不肯回家。

She does not refuse the child anything. 孩子要什么，她都不拒絕。

提示

refuse后面不可跟that從句。

② decline指婉言謝絕他人的幫助或邀請(qǐng)等。

We had to decline their invitation because we had made other plans. 我們不得不謝絕他們的邀請(qǐng)，因?yàn)槲覀兞碛杏?jì)劃。

He declined（=refused）to say anything definitely about his plan. 他不肯明確地說(shuō)出他到底有些什么計(jì)劃。

提示

①decline在與不定式連用時(shí)，相當(dāng)于一般的拒絕，與refuse?？赏ㄓ?。

②decline不能以人作賓語(yǔ)，不說(shuō)I declined him.或He was declined.這是與refuse不同的地方。

③ reject指認(rèn)為某事/物無(wú)用或不合適而不接受；還有“丟棄，駁回，拋棄”等含義，比refuse語(yǔ)氣強(qiáng)，后接名詞。

He rejected our help. 他拒絕我們的幫助。

The government rejected the diplomatic note. 該政府拒絕接受那份外交照會(huì)。

The Flat Earth theory was rejected centuries ago. 地平說(shuō)在幾個(gè)世紀(jì)以前就遭到了駁斥。

She felt rejected by society. 她感到被社會(huì)拋棄了。
