[00:07.84]Limiting the Use of Private Cars
[00:11.88]Our society is witnessing a dramatic growth
[00:16.34]in the number of private cars.
[00:18.39]As the economy develops by leaps and bounds,
[00:22.12]more and more people prefer private cars to public transportation.
[00:27.91]Along with the conveniences brought
[00:31.17]by private cars are some serious problems.
[00:34.90]First and foremost,
[00:37.08]environmental pollution is going from bad to worse
[00:41.31]due to the increase of carbon emission by private vehicles.
[00:45.60]What's more,
[00:47.03]the rising number of private cars
[00:49.67]has by far exceeded the development of the road networks,
[00:54.02]thus making traffic jams a big problem.
[00:57.57]Lastly, we are obviously faced with a much higher rate of road accidents.
[01:04.36]In view of these problems,
[01:06.48]we had better take effective measures
[01:08.84]to limit the use of private cars.
[01:11.58]In the first place,
[01:13.44]it is essential for the government
[01:16.03]to encourage citizens to choose bikes,
[01:18.73]buses, or subways.
[01:20.79]In the second place,
[01:22.63]higher taxes can be collected from private car owners
[01:27.24]so that they will think twice before buying a car.
[01:30.73]With these and some other relevant measures,
[01:34.15]I firmly believe the problems can be properly handled.
