There was an Olympic swimming champion on the Titanic. He was very confident he could survive. He asked the captain, "How far away is the nearest land?" The captain replied,"About one mile." The man got excited and asked, "In which direction?" The captain answered, "Down!"

Notes:

1. There was an Olympic swimming champion on the Titanic.

一個(gè)奧運(yùn)游泳冠軍在泰坦尼克號(hào)上。

冠軍是champion,亞軍是runner-up,季軍也就是第三名是 the third;金、銀、銅牌則分別是 gold medal, silver medal，bronze medal。

2. He was very confident he could survive.

他非常確信他能生還。

要表達(dá)對(duì)某事有把握，可以用“be confident of sth.”如：I am confident of what I am doing.我對(duì)我正在做的事有信心。 或是加that從句(that可以省略)，如：I'm confident that you will succeed.我相信你會(huì)成功。

3. He asked the captain, "How far away is the nearest land?"

他問船長(zhǎng)：“最近的陸地有多遠(yuǎn)?”

How far away is...?…有多遠(yuǎn)?

4. The captain replied,"About one mile."

船長(zhǎng)回答：“大約一英里。”

一英里約等于1.6公里，對(duì)于奧運(yùn)冠軍來說是小意思， 一只腳游也能到。

5. The man got excited and asked, "In wbich direction?"

這個(gè)男人變得很興奮，他問道：“在哪個(gè)方向?”
