The man said to his son, "Could you check and see if the direction lights are working on your side of the car?"

His son looked out the window and said, "Yes, no, yes, no, yes, no, yes, no..."

Notes:

1. A man and his son were riding in the car.

有一個男人和他兒子坐在車上。

這個男人對他兒子說：“檢查一下你那邊的方向燈有沒有壞，行嗎?”

“方向燈”也有其他說法，如：blinkers, turn signal, directional signal,各種車燈說法分別為:headlight (頭燈)、 taillight(尾燈〉、reversing light!(倒車燈)、brake ligbt(剎車燈)。

"look out the window"有兩個意思：①看窗外;②把頭伸出窗外看。在本句中的含義是“把頭伸出窗外看”因為頭必須伸出窗外，才能看到方向燈。方向燈總是一亮一滅的, 所以孩子就以為方向燈忽好忽壞。
