The Frost looked forth one still, clear night,

霜看到一個(gè)平靜而晴朗的夜晚，

And whispered, Now I shall be out of sight;

低語(yǔ)道,現(xiàn)在我要淡出人們視野；

So through the valley and over the height

穿過(guò)河谷，越過(guò)高山，

In silence I'll take my way;

我會(huì)悄悄地出發(fā)；

I will not go on, like that blustering train,

我不會(huì)像呼嘯的火車那般前行，

The wind and the snow, the hail and the rain,

風(fēng)和雪、雹和雨，

Who make so much bustle and noise in vain,

枉費(fèi)了制造出的那么多喧囂與噪音，

But I'll be as busy as they.

但我會(huì)和他們一樣繁忙不已。

Then he flew to the mountain, and powdered its crest;

然后他飛到山邊，給山峰打上了粉；

He lit on the trees, and their boughs he dressed in diamond beads; and over the breast of the quivering lake,

他落在樹上，給樹枝穿上了鉆石般的珠子；在胸膛般起伏的湖面上，

he spread a coat of mail, that it need not fear

他展開一幅鎧甲，再不需要擔(dān)心

The downward point of many a spear,

長(zhǎng)矛的戳戳點(diǎn)點(diǎn)，

That he hung on its margin, far and near,

他將四周全部包裹。

Where a rock could rear its head.

在石頭裸露在外的地方，

He went to the windows of those who slept,

他還光顧了人們熟睡的窗子，

And over each pane, like a fairy, crept;

在每塊窗格玻璃上，像精靈般慢慢爬行；

Wherever he breathed, wherever he stepped,

無(wú)論他在哪里呼吸，無(wú)論他在哪里踏足，

By the light of the morn were seen

伴隨著黎明的光線看到，

Most beautiful things; there were flowers and trees;

There were bevies of birds, and swarms of bees;

There were cities with temples and towers,

擁有神廟和高塔的城市；

and these all pictured in silver sheen.

這些全都披上了銀白的光澤。

But he did one thing that was hardly fair;

但他還做了一件不那么公允的事；

He peeped in the cupboard,

他向碗櫥中窺望，

and, finding there that all had forgotten for him to prepare,

Now just to set them a-thinking,

I'll bite this basket of fruit, said he,

我把這筐水果咬了，他說(shuō)道，

This costly pitcher I'll burst in three;

這個(gè)價(jià)值不菲的水罐我要闖三闖；

And the glass of water they've left for me

這杯他們留給我的水

Shall 'tchick!' to tell them I'm drinking.

會(huì)發(fā)出‘乞’的聲音，告訴他們我正喝著。
