It was the schooner Hesperus,

帆船赫斯珀洛斯號(hào)；

That sailed the wintry sea;

行駛在冬天的大海上。

And the skipper had taken his little daughter,

Blue were her eyes as the fairy flax,

Down came the storm, and smote amain,

The vessel in its strength;

She shuddered and paused, like a frighted steed,

帆船搖搖晃晃，像受驚的馬兒，

Then leaped her cable's length.

Come hither! come hither! my little daughter,

And do not tremble so;

你不要害怕；

For I can weather the roughest gale,

再大的風(fēng)浪，

That ever wind did blow.

我也能挺得過(guò)

He wrapped her warm in his seaman's coat,

他脫下海員服給女兒穿上，

Against the stinging blast:

對(duì)抗凜冽刺骨的寒風(fēng)；

He cut a rope from a broken spar,

And bound her to the mast.

把小女兒纏在桅桿上。

O father! I hear the church bells ring,

Oh say, what may it be?

This a fog bell on a rock-bound coast!

海岸起了大霧，鐘聲才響起！

And he steered for the open sea.
