"One thing I hate" about watching television — something I don't like — "is having to watch all the commercials." 看電視時(shí)“我討厭的一件事”——我不喜歡的事——“就是要看那些廣告”。

A commercial is the same as an advertisement on television or radio; 廣告就是電視或廣播上的宣傳;

it's an announcement from a company that wants you to buy what they are selling. 它是某公司想要你購(gòu)買他們的產(chǎn)品或服務(wù)的宣傳。

Well, I don't like watching the commercials, "so I turn the sound down." 那個(gè)，我不喜歡看廣告，“因此我便把音量調(diào)小。”

To turn the sound down means to lower the volume, to make it so that it is less loud — it is quieter. " “To turn the sound down”意思是調(diào)低音量，這樣做的話它的聲音就會(huì)變小——它就更安靜了。

To thumb through something, "thumb" through (two words) means to look through something, but usually not to be paying too much attention. 翻(thumb)看(兩個(gè)字)某物意思是瀏覽某物，通常是不會(huì)過(guò)多關(guān)注的東西。

You're sort of looking but you're not necessarily reading very carefully. 雖然你在看，但你不會(huì)很認(rèn)真地看。
