這位可憐的紳士對譏笑非常敏感，我發(fā)現(xiàn)他對自己的所作所為頗感羞愧。

On the other side, I found that I myself had no great reason to triumph,

Observing him to be a pleasant kind of a fellow, I stuck my cane in the ground,
