1. 用作情態(tài)動(dòng)詞：

1）need后接動(dòng)詞原形。

I don't think you need take it too seriously.

我認(rèn)為你沒有必要太認(rèn)真。

2）need沒有人稱和數(shù)的變化。

—Need we do it all alone at once？

—No, we needn't .

——我們需要馬上獨(dú)自做此事嗎？

——不，不必了。

3）need多用在疑問句和否定句中。

—Need you go yet？

—Yes, I must .

——你需要走嗎？

——是的，我得走了。

Need they have done that yesterday?

昨天他們有必要做那件事嗎？

I asked him whether he need go.

我問他是否需要走。

4）needn't have done表示過去沒有必要做某事而實(shí)際上已經(jīng)做了。

You needn't have told me that, for I knew it earlier than you.

你真沒有必要告訴我那件事，因?yàn)槲冶饶阒赖枚荚纭?

You needn't have gone to school yesterday, for it was Sunday.

昨天你沒有必要去上學(xué)，因?yàn)槭切瞧谔臁?

We have plenty of bread, so I needn't have bought so much.

我們有足夠的面包，因此我真沒有必要買了這么多。

5）need疑問句, 其回答與must疑問句的回答一樣。

—Need/Must I hand in my homework right now?

—No. you needn't .

——我現(xiàn)在必須上交作業(yè)嗎？

——不，不必了。

2. need作實(shí)意動(dòng)詞：

1）后可接名詞或代詞。

We are certain to need help .

我們當(dāng)然需要幫助。

In winter all of us need warm clothes .

在冬天我們所有人都需要暖和的衣服。

2）后可接不定式。

I don't think you need to hurry up ; it is still early.

我認(rèn)為你沒必要這么匆忙，還早著呢。

The house needs to be repaired .

這房子需要修理。

Does he need to go away so soon?

他有必要這么快就走嗎？

3）后可接動(dòng)名詞，這時(shí)動(dòng)名詞與主語成被動(dòng)關(guān)系: need doing= need to be done。

The house needs repairing/to be repaired .

這房子需要修理。

The trees need watering/to be watered .

這些樹需要澆水。

The child needs looking after/to be looked after .

這個(gè)小孩需要照料。

4）后可接復(fù)合賓語。

I need you to come to help me with my children.

我需要你來幫我照料孩子。

Do you need the book back tomorrow?

你明天要收回那本書嗎？

I need my radio repaired .

我要人修理我的收音機(jī)。
