【主題】
This morning, I'd like to share a way of saying"I'm waiting to hear what you say." As usual, let's get it from a dialogue.
A : I want to know why you were fighting. I'm listening. B : Someone was bothering me so I hit him.
【答疑解惑】
It is "I'm listening." From it we can understand the speaker wants to know something. 這個(gè)短語(yǔ)有2個(gè)意思,一個(gè)就是字面意思:我正在聽(tīng)著。另一個(gè)就是我們今天要講的意思:It means tell me about it now. As for “listening”, I would like to sent you two more short sentences which is relative with it. They are: Somebody is all ears for somebody. I'll bite. The first is similar to saying in Chinese:某人洗耳恭聽(tīng)。The second means"I don't know so you can tell me." 意思是:我不知道,你說(shuō)說(shuō)看。
【即學(xué)即用】
Now let's put it into practice.下面進(jìn)入我們的即學(xué)即用環(huán)節(jié)。Please translate the following sentences into English. 1 我聽(tīng)著了,快說(shuō)。2 她出問(wèn)題的時(shí)候,大家都格外關(guān)注。3 不知道,說(shuō)說(shuō)看,你為何這么運(yùn)氣好?Think them for a while and the answers about to be given later. 1 I am listening. Talk fast. 2 When she has a problem, everyone is all ears for her. 3 I'll bite. Why are you so lucky?
【吃透美語(yǔ)】
A : I want to know why you were fighting. I'm listening. B : Someone was bothering me so I hit him. I want to know why you were fighting. 【翻譯】我不知道你為何打架。
【關(guān)鍵詞】In this sentence "fight" means "to struggle physically with somebody". 母親要保護(hù)自己的孩子,那可是跟你拼命地。She'll fight like a tiger to protect her children. 為了保護(hù)她的孩子她兇得像只老虎。
2 Someone was bothering me, so I hit him. 【翻譯】有人找我麻煩,所以我打了他。
【關(guān)鍵詞】In this sentence "bother" means "cause somebody trouble". 給某人帶來(lái)麻煩。Here is a set phrase: bother somebody about(with) something. 因某事而打擾某人。有的人很會(huì)體貼人,不希望別人因自己的事兒而操心。 I don't want to bother her with my problem at the moment. 我不想此刻因我的個(gè)人問(wèn)題而打擾她。"Hit" means"to bring your hand, or object against somebody or something". It's set phrase is :hit somebody or something with something. 有人給你帶來(lái)麻煩時(shí),有時(shí)候你會(huì)教訓(xùn)他一頓。He hit me on the head with her umbrella. 她用雨傘打了他的頭。注意在這打了某人的某人部位,結(jié)構(gòu)式hit+人稱代詞+介詞+身體部位。例如這句是打了他的頭,不要說(shuō)成是hit his head.這樣就是Chinglish了。
All right. Let's call it a day. May you have a nice day. Thank you for your listening. See you next time.
