The World Bank says Latin America and the Caribbean are suffering the worst economic and social impacts of the coronavirus pandemic anywhere in the world. In its latest report, the bank said the region was in the grip of increased uncertainty, a collapse in tourism and the consequences of month in lockdown.

U.S media reports say President Trump will make public appearance at the White House on Saturday, hosting an event for the fist time since his hospital treatment for coronavirus. White House officials earlier said Mr. Trump will not attend a campaign rally in Florida on Saturday, but make appearance on Monday instead.

The Iraqi government and the regional authority in Kurdistan have signed what they call a historic agreement on the region of Sinjar, where the Yazidi community faced a campaign of genocide by the Islamic State group. Few details have yet been revealed, but it has been seen as a first step towards settling the status of Sinjarm.

At a court in the U.S state of Virginia, two British men who joined the Islamic State militant group have entered a plea of not guilty to charges they conspired to murder western hostages, including U.S citizens. 36-year-old Alexander Kotey and El Shafee Elsheikh, who's 32. have been held in U.S custody in Iraq.

A team of physicists from institutions in Moscow, London and Cambridge established that sound could move through solid atomic hydrogen at a maximum velocity of close to 36 kilometers per second. Until now, it was not known whether sound waves had upper speed limit when traveling through solids or liquids.
