This second man was ordered never to let Achmet out of his sight, and he followed him like his shadow.

并且命令這仆人要把阿奇麥特緊緊地盯住。那晚他在后面暗暗跟隨，

He went after him that night and saw him pass through the doorway.

眼看阿奇麥特走進(jìn)了堡門。

Of course he thought he had taken refuge in the fort and applied for admission there himself next day, but could find no trace of Achmet.

他以為阿奇麥特在堡內(nèi)已經(jīng)安頓妥當(dāng)，所以在第二天就設(shè)法進(jìn)入堡內(nèi)，可是怎樣也找不到阿奇麥特。

This seemed to him so strange that he spoke about it to a sergeant of guides,

他以為事情太離奇了，就和守衛(wèi)的班長(zhǎng)談了，

who brought it to the ears of the commandant.

班長(zhǎng)又向司令官作了報(bào)告，

A thorough search was quickly made, and the body was discovered.

因此在全堡內(nèi)立刻作了一次細(xì)密的搜查，發(fā)現(xiàn)了尸身。
