當(dāng)雙方的談話陷入僵局的時(shí)候，完全沒(méi)必要不知所措，一句“Let's find a happy medium.（我們還是找一個(gè)折中的辦法吧。）”就能將你們拉回重新探討問(wèn)題的道路上來(lái)。medium在英語(yǔ)里有“中間、中道”的意思。而happy是幸福、快樂(lè)之意。在happy medium中medium更是有“好，恰如其分，恰到好處”的意思，而happy medium即指“折中的辦法”。

雙方就技術(shù)轉(zhuǎn)讓的所有細(xì)節(jié)進(jìn)行了詳盡地探討，并最終在所有的意見(jiàn)上均取得了一致意見(jiàn)。

A：I think that the technology you transfer to us should enable our products to be competitive on the world market and achieve significant economic results. The technology provided to us must be complete, accurate and reliable.

B：Of course. Meanwhile, within the stated scope and period agreed upon by us, you shall have the obligation to keep confidential the technical secrets contained in the technology provided by us, which have not been made public.

A：You needn't worry about it. We guarantee that the know-how transferred to us will be kept confidential and we will not give the game away or pass it on to a third party. We hope you can provide and explain the technical assistance, method of operation, instructions and other technical data and information.

B：You shall provide us with adequate facility and the necessary tools to our technicians rendering technical assistance.

A：All expenses shall be born by you. Is that OK?

B：Well, yes, we agree.

A：How long will this agreement be effective?

B：We suggest that the term be 5 years.

A：We can accept that.

B：How shall we settle dispute?

A：All disputes in connection with this agreement shall be amicably settled by negotiation between two parties. If no settlement can be reached, the dispute shall be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce, London, for conciliation in order to settle the dispute friendly under the rules adopted by that Chamber.

B：All right. We agree with you.

give the game away泄密；暴露，露出馬腳

Give away原意是“分發(fā)，放棄”的意思；give the game away可引申為“泄密，暴露，露出馬腳”。give the game away源自魔術(shù)表演。我們知道，魔術(shù)是一門(mén)神奇的藝術(shù)；好的魔術(shù)表演不僅能贏得觀眾的掌聲甚至還能讓許多人達(dá)到癡迷的程度。你看，魔術(shù)師在臺(tái)上要風(fēng)得風(fēng)、要雨得雨，一會(huì)兒變出一朵鮮花，一會(huì)兒又把女模特切成兩半，真是無(wú)比威風(fēng)啊。但表演中，一旦稍有閃失，出了紕漏，魔術(shù)就會(huì)露出馬腳，被觀眾們恥笑。這時(shí)候，魔術(shù)師也只好give the game away（放棄表演），夾著尾巴灰溜溜的逃跑了。后來(lái)，人們也用give the game away來(lái)表示“泄露秘密；露出破綻”等含義。
