455　need和want

1　need 表示“需要，必需”，既可作行為動詞，也可作情態(tài)動詞。作行為動詞時，后接名詞、動詞或不定式。need 著重客觀上的需要。

All plants need water and sunshine. 所有的植物都需要水和陽光。

John needs help. 約翰需要幫助。

The knife is dull. It needs sharpening. 這把刀鈍了，需要磨一磨。

That question really doesn't need answering. 那個問題的確不需要回答。

The old man will need looking after. 這位老人需要照顧。

The point needs clarifying. 這一點需要澄清。

The bike needs repairing. 這輛自行車需要修理 。

the bike needs to be repaired.

We need to build a new bridge here. 我們需要在這里造一座新橋。

You need not go there. 你不需要去那里。（情態(tài)動詞 ）

need還可作名詞。

2　want 意為“想要，要求，要”，是行為動詞，后接名詞或不定式。want 強調主觀上的要求。

Which one do you want ? 你想要哪一個？

The boy wants a knife. 這男孩想要一把小刀。

I want to go to the movies this evening. 今晚我想去看電影。

want doing表示“需要，有必要”。

The trees want watering. 樹要澆水了。

the trees want to be watered.

Those clothes want washing. 那些衣服需要洗了。
