Pray under the moon

This is a tradition since ancient times. This activity stems from a story that took place in the Qi country. Legend has it that once there was a girl with an ugly face, and she always respectfully prayed to the moon god. When she became an adult, she was recruited into the palace, but did not receive the king's attention. One full moon night in August, the king met her while walking under the most beautiful moonlight of the year and felt her beauty. She became the Queen after that. Since then, the girls started the tradition of worshiping the moon on the Mid-Autumn Festival.

On the night of the 15th of August of the lunar calendar, Chinese people release lanterns on the river into the sky to wish for good luck and happiness for their family and friends.

Dropping lanterns into the river is a Chinese custom to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival that is especially important for girls and children. Accordingly, they will use oil paper to make lanterns of different shapes such as lotus flowers, boats... and then light them with a candle, drop them into rivers or lakes or let them fly up. Before releasing the lanterns, everyone sincerely prayed, hoping that the lanterns would bring their wishes to the gods, and their wishes will come true.
