US President Donald Trump has reverted to threats of war and destruction, warning North Korea of his “bigger and more powerful” nuclear arsenal in comments that could upset signs of detente on the peninsula.

美國總統(tǒng)唐納德•特朗普(Donald Trump)再次訴諸戰(zhàn)爭和毀滅威脅，警告朝鮮他擁有“更大、更強”的核武庫。這番言論可能會撲滅朝鮮半島局勢緩和的苗頭。

“Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform [Kim Jong Un] that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” the US leader tweeted on Wednesday.

The latest rhetoric cames amid nascent signs of a thaw between Seoul and Pyongyang — a development that Mr Trump only hours earlier said was “good news”.

特朗普是在朝韓關(guān)系出現(xiàn)新的解凍跡象時發(fā)表上述最新言論的，而數(shù)小時前，特朗普還曾說朝韓關(guān)系解凍是個“好消息”。

Tensions on the Korean peninsula threatened to tip over into conflict last year as Mr Trump and Mr Kim, North Korea’s supreme leader, faced off over Pyongyang’s development and testing of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons.

However, a new year’s address by Mr Kim raised hopes of a thaw after he suggested he was open to inter-Korean talks and to his nation’s participation in next month’s Winter Olympics in South Korea.

The overture was greeted warmly by South Korean officials but with equivocation from the US, which is pursuing a policy of “maximum pressure” in an attempt to denuclearise the reclusive regime.

Hopes of a thaw were heightened on Wednesday when Pyongyang said it would restore a communications channel with Seoul that had been cut for almost two years.

The US state department said: “Our policy remains the same. If the Republic of Korea and if [North Korea] want to have a conversation, that’s fine, but we aren’t going to necessarily believe that Kim Jong Un is sincere and is credible in his talks.”

Kim Chul-woo, a senior fellow at the Korea Institute for Defense Analyses think-tank, said the US leader’s latest tweet signalled that he was “very uncomfortable” with developments. 韓國國防分析研究所(Korea Institute for Defense Analyses)高級研究員Kim Chul-woo表示，這位美國領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人的最新推文表明，他對這些事態(tài)發(fā)展感到“很不爽”。

“Even if America says it is OK, it is not actually OK. The alliance between [the US and South Korea] is supposed to be collaborative. If a North Korean delegation comes to the Olympics, it won’t be framed as a sports event — it will take political meaning,” he said.
