我們知道，在傳統(tǒng)意義上來講，白色在中國(guó)文化中更偏向于消極的含義。而受文化差異的影響，白色在西方文化中則更偏向于積極含義。經(jīng)常用來象征美好，純潔和善良的事物。在美國(guó)早期的電影中，英雄人物往往是帶著白色的帽子，而惡人都是戴黑帽子。久而久之，包含white 的短語也就有了積極的含義。我們一起來往下看。
01.White lie
This means a lie that is told in order to be polite or to stop someone from being upset by the truth. White lie 意為善意的謊言。說謊是不對(duì)的，可是善意的謊言一般是出于好意而說出的謊言，是為了他人著想而說出的謊言。

02.a white elephant
A white elephant means something that has cost a lot of money but has no useful purpose.這個(gè)短語意為昂貴卻又沒有用的東西，可以翻譯為無用的累贅。據(jù)說，這個(gè)短語來源于印度，由于印度人很崇拜大象，對(duì)于大象尤其是白象視若神靈。印度規(guī)定，白象是不準(zhǔn)宰殺、干活的，擁有白象的家庭要好好對(duì)待它，直到它死去。所以人們將白象看作是一種累贅，因此會(huì)有 white elephant這個(gè)說法。

03.white day
White day 除了有白色情人節(jié)的意思之外，它還可以指“良辰吉日”。大家可不要望文生義，翻譯為“白天”。
