Australian police are investigating after chocolates filled with a mysterious substance were left outside homes in Fremantle, Perth.
The four wrapped sweets were found on High St on Saturday (local time). They'd been placed in letterboxes and on fences outside private residences "at a height accessible to children", reports the West Australian, and were similar to the mini chocolate bars in boxes of Cadbury's Favourites.
Fremantle Police say upon inspection, the chocolates were found to contain an "unknown substance" that seemed to have been manually placed inside them.
"There is no suggestion they were purchased off the shelf with the substance inside," police say.
"This is a localised incident and forensic testing is currently being undertaken to establish the substance placed in these specific chocolates."
No one ate the chocolates, but Fremantle Police have reminded the public to be vigilant about the origins of any food before they eat it.
