After some time the people in the town began to dislike him, and gradually refused to give food to him.
There was nothing he could do but go to work in farmers' horse post with a farrier(獸醫(yī),馬醫(yī)). He put up with a living in the suburbs. Then the people in town laughed at him, saying, "You work with a farrier, and end eat the leftover(吃剩的飯菜). Don't you fell humiliated?"
The poor man replied, "There is nothing more humiliating than being a beggar. I could even put up with mendicancy(乞討), so it is nothing for me to work with a farrier."
齊國(guó)有一個(gè)窮人,靠在城里各家乞討生活。
時(shí)間長(zhǎng)了,城里人開(kāi)始討厭他,漸漸地都不給他飯吃。
他沒(méi)有辦法,只好到種田人家的馬棚里,跟著馬醫(yī)干活,在郊外將就把日子過(guò)下去。城里人又開(kāi)始嘲笑他:“你跟著馬醫(yī)干活,吃人家的殘羹剩飯,難道不覺(jué)得丟臉嗎?”
這個(gè)窮人回答說(shuō):“世上沒(méi)有比乞討更恥辱的事兒了。討飯的日子我都能忍受,跟著馬醫(yī)干活兒又算得了什么呢?”
