中級對話

如果你把前一部分最基本的初級對話都掌握了的話，那就開始下一步的跋涉——進軍中級對話吧。具有中級英語水平的人，也就具備了中級交流的能力。這一部分的對話涉及生活、工作和學(xué)習(xí)的點點滴滴，有發(fā)生在老朋友之間的，有同學(xué)之間、親友之間的，有發(fā)生在同事之間的，也有上下級之間的。但不論場景如何變化，它們的共同點就是――交流。

1． I Can’t Believe My Eyes
我簡直不能相信眼前的事實

A: I can’t believe my eyes!
我簡直不能相信眼前的事實！

B: Well, if it isn’t Mike Li!
這不是邁克•李嗎！

A: Jim Wang! It’s nice to see you again! It’s been a long time.
吉姆•王！見到你真是太高興了！好久不見了。

B: You know, Mike, I’ve been meaning to call you for a long time. I’m so glad I ran into you today.
邁克，你知道嗎，很久以來我一直想給你打電話。真高興今天能遇到你。

A: Me, too. How have you been doing?

A: Pretty good. I can’t complain.

B: So tell me, the last time I saw you, you were planning to go abroad to study, weren’t you?

A: Yes, I guess I was. But as it turned out, I changed my mind. I decided not to go after all.

A: Well, it’s a long story, and I don’t want to bore you with all the details. But what it boils down to is that I decided that going to Stanford wasn’t a very good idea. I decided to go to Beijing University instead. I want to save my money and start my own business after graduation.
說來話長。那些細節(jié)我就不贅述了。最后的結(jié)果是，我覺得去斯坦福讀書不太明智。我打算去北大。這樣，把錢省下來，畢業(yè)后可以自己開一家公司。

B: Really? That’s very interesting.

A: And how about you? The last time we talked, didn’t you tell me you were going to open your own restaurant and hotel?

B: That’s right. I was. But things turned out differently than I expected.

A: But you seemed so determined to do that. What happened?

B: Well, it’s very complicated, and I’m sure you don’t want to know all the details. But as it turned out, I decided that opening my restaurant just wasn’t for me. So I decided to stay at my old job instead.
說來復(fù)雜。我知道你不愿意聽詳細的個中原由。但結(jié)果卻是，我覺得自己開飯店并不適合我，所以就決定留在原來的工作崗位。

A: Well, a lot sure has happened since we last saw each other.
是啊，從上次見面以來，真是發(fā)生了很多事。

B: You can say that again! You know, we should try to stay in touch.
你說得對！我們應(yīng)該盡量保持聯(lián)系。

A: Yes, we should. Let’s have lunch together sometime soon.

B: That’s a good idea. I’ll call you.

口語要素
大家會發(fā)現(xiàn)，對話里面出現(xiàn)最多的是精彩的“口語要素”，其實，日常對話都是這些零零碎碎的“口語要素”組成的！一部英文電影又何嘗不是成千上萬“口語要素”的集合呢！

★ I can’t believe my eyes! 我簡直不能相信眼前的事實！
舉一反三：
*　I can’t believe my ears! 真是讓人難以置信！
*　I can’t believe what I saw! 我不相信我的眼睛！

★ It’s nice to see you again! 又見到你真是太高興了！

【瘋狂提示】
這是一個典型的結(jié)束此類談話的方式。如果有一個外國人到談話的末尾對你說出這句話，要謹記兩點：第一，不要追問確切的“一起吃午飯”的時間，第二，不要苦苦地等待那頓“不花錢的午餐”。如果對方出于誠意，他會這樣說：Let’s have lunch together next Monday, OK?
★ That’s a good idea. 這主意不錯。
★ I’ll call you. 我到時候給你打電話。
★ Take care now. 多保重。

【瘋狂提示】這是一個掩蓋粗心、健忘及忙昏了頭等等過失的最好的遮羞布！這是一個既體貼又體面但又不失虛偽的句型。一定要掌握它！

④ You seemed so determined to 你好像決心很大……
You seemed so determined to do that.
你當時是決心很大的。

⑤ If I remember correctly 如果我沒記錯的話
If I remember correctly, you were intent on going to California.
如果我沒記錯的話，你當時是要去加利福尼亞。

⑥ I thought 我原以為

語法點滴
過去進行時：表示過去正在進行的動作

一般過去時：表示過去發(fā)生的事情
