To a certain extent, World Expo 2010 Shanghai China is more significant than the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Unlike the Olympic Games that only lasted three to four weeks, this World Expo will showcase the profound history and culture of China for several months, during which visitors from all over the world will be able to view first-hand China's current image and its image for the future.
World Expos have a personal meaning in my family. Two of my grand-aunts were from Lithuania in Eastern Europe. In the beginning of last century, they left Lithuania and chose to go to St. Louis in the United States.
Why did they choose to go to the United States? It was because World Expo 1900 was held in St. Louis. They believed the United States would be full of opportunities because of the exposition. The descendants of my grand-aunts still live in St. Louis today.
The hosting of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China will create unimaginable opportunities and will have a profound impact on Shanghai, China and even the whole world. This event coincides with the continuing growth of China's global influence and will leave its imprint for a long time to come.
The success of China's reform and opening-up during the past 30 years can be attributed to the practical and realistic policies of the Chinese government. When policies were unfeasible or unsuitable, government leaders weren't afraid to change course in positive ways.
World Expo 2010 Shanghai China will be a beautiful experience for all. I applaud the planning of this great event.
