Hello, friends! It is time to open our Window on the World again. We are learning all about the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. Today we'll see what kinds of foods the people enjoy. If you are a visitor you will be invited to share a meal in a home there. Don't worry, you don't have to eat everything on your plate. Guests are always encouraged to take some food home with them, too!

Usually, two large meals are eaten each day with snacking throughout the day. Breakfast is called "morning food" and the meal eaten later in the day is called "afternoon food." A popular food is taro. Other foods that are grown on the island include sweet potatoes, yams, bananas, & coconut. Many people often fish and enjoy all kinds of seafood. Some farmers raise pigs and chickens for food- Some unusual foods that I'm not sure I'd want to eat include eels, bats and even kangaroo in some parts of the country. I'm not very brave when it comes to trying something exotic. How about you?
