Spring, the sweet Spring, is the year's pleasant king(1);
Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,
Cold doth not sting(2), the pretty birds do sing(3),
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!(4)
The palm(5) and may(6) make country houses gay,
Lambs frisk' and play, the shepherds pipe all day,
And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay,(7)
Cuckoo, jug-jug' pu,we, to-witta-woo !
The fields breathe sweet, the daisies kiss our feet,
Young lovers meet, old wives a-sunning sit(8),
In every street these tunes bur ears do greet(9),

春 天
春天，甜蜜的春天，一年中歡樂的君王，
春光中萬物昌盛，春光中少女們團團起舞，
寒冷不再砭骨，美麗的鳥兒處處啼唱，
咕咕，喳一喳，卜一威，嘟一威嗒一喔!
棕櫚樹和山楂花把鄉(xiāng)村房舍點綴得喜氣洋洋，
小羔羊活蹦歡跳，牧羊人整日價笛聲裊裊，
我們時時斯到鳥兒唱起快樂的曲調(diào)，
咕咕，喳一喳， 卜一威，嘟一威嗒一喔!
田野間一片芬芳，盛開的雛菊緊貼在我們腳旁，
年輕的情侶對對相聚，老婦人坐著沐浴陽光，
每條街上都有這樣的曲調(diào)在我們耳邊回蕩，
咕咕，喳一喳， 卜一威，嘟一威嗒一喔!

(1)the year's Pleasant king： 涵義是"一年四季中以春為最歡樂的時期"，king 比喻一歲之首。
(2)Cold doth not sting： 寒冷不再砭骨。doth 是古英語中 do 的第三人稱現(xiàn)在時態(tài)形式，現(xiàn)僅用于詩歌中。
(3)the pretty birds do sing： 助動詞 do 是為了韻律的需要而加進去的。
(4)cuckoo ： 布 谷 鳥 叫 聲 ;jug ： 夜 鶯 的 嗚 叫 聲 ;pu-we ： 田 鳧 的 鳴 聲to-witta-woo：泛指各種鳥鳴。
(5)palm: 棕櫚。其枝葉常作為勝利的象征。
(6)may： 山楂花。因在五月盛開，故名 may。
(7)And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay： 句中 aye 是古英語副詞，解作"經(jīng)常"s tune 用作動詞，在古英語中解作"唱"; lay 是名詞，在古英語中解作"歌曲"。這些詞常見于詩歌中。
(8)old wives a-sunning sit：sit 是謂語動詞。a-sunning：曬太陽，作狀語; a-作為特殊介詞，在現(xiàn)代英語中已不如此使用。例如：在現(xiàn)代英語中不說He went a-fishing 而說 He went fishing。
(9)these tunes our ears do greet：do greet 是謂語動詞， our ears是它的賓語。把 greet 放在句尾是為了和該節(jié)第一行的 feet 押韻.
