金球獎(jiǎng)1994年之前評(píng)選對(duì)象限定為擁有歐洲國(guó)籍的球員，首位獲獎(jiǎng)球員是斯坦利·馬休斯;1995年開始評(píng)選對(duì)象放寬為效力歐洲足協(xié)成員國(guó)所屬的足球俱樂部的球員;2007年開始評(píng)選范圍擴(kuò)展為全球所有職業(yè)足球運(yùn)動(dòng)員，故2007年前的金球獎(jiǎng)獲得者也常被稱為歐洲足球先生(EuropeanFootballer of the Year);2010年與原國(guó)際足聯(lián)世界足球先生合并為國(guó)際足球聯(lián)合會(huì)金球獎(jiǎng)(FIFABallon d'Or)，合并前最后一位獲獎(jiǎng)球員是里奧·梅西。

Wolfsburg boss Ralf Kellermann was named women's football coach of the year after a successfuldefence of the Champions League.

The three candidates for the Ballon d'Or were all picked in the team of the year, along withdefenders Philipp Lahm, David Luiz, Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos, midfielders Andres Iniesta, ToniKroos and Angel Di Maria and forward Arjen Robben.
