A: Who is your favourite painter?
B: My favorite painter is Picasso. He always expresses such a strong feeling in his abstract paintings.I always get a strange sense of excitement when I see his work.
A: Frankly speaking,I don’t understand the point of his work. It’s just too abstract for me. I don’t actually like modem art. I prefer traditional paintings. Generally speaking, traditional work was more representational than modem work.
B: Renaissance paintings were always very detailed and delicate. Those painters certainly were skilled, but not as creative as Picasso. Since you like traditional paintings, what do you think about Leonardo Da Vinci? His most famous painting is the Portrait of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre.
A: I like his paintings. I think the shading and color are much more vivid. By the way, when you studied at Yale School of Art, did you always visit the art gallery?
?br />
B: Yes. I used to visit the Yale Center for British Art. The collection of paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, rare books, and manuscripts reflects the development of British art, life. Works on view include masterpieces by British artists, as well as major artists from Europe and America who lived and worked in Britain.
A: I have ever visited the Centre. It is both a public art museum and a world-renowned research institute for the study of British art and culture.
B: Right. It was presented to the University by Paul Mellon. He was graduated from Yale in 1929. It houses the most comprehensive collection of British art outside the United Kingdom. The Center is a valuable resource for faculty, students, and the public. It offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions and programs, including lectures, concerts, films, teacher workshops, and so on. The Center also houses a reference library, and study room for works on rare books and manuscripts.
A: I also want to visit the Yale University Art Gallery.
B: Oh. It was established in 1832. It is the oldest college art museum in the United States. It serves as an important teaching resource for Yale students and faculty. The Gallery offers free exhibitions, lectures, tours, symposiaC3 , and other public programs.
A: What are the collections of the Art Gallery?
B: The collections of the Yale University Art Gallery include superb holdings in American painting and decorative arts; outstanding collections of Greek and Roman art; a celebrated group of early Italian paintings and modern art from numerous collections.
A: In my opinion, the Art Gallery itself can also be called“art”.
B: I agree with you. The Gallery’s main facility, designed by Louis Kahn, is a masterpiece of modem architecture and museum design. It has recently undergone a comprehensive renovation - in order to increase both exhibition space and teaching facilities.
A: There is another art exhibition next Saturday. Will you go there with me?
B: OK. I’d love to.
