In Chinese culture, the color of red is often symbolizes good luck, longevity and good fortune. In the Spring Festival and other festive occasions, red is seen everywhere. Cash is often put into a red envelop when it is sent as a present to relatives or close friends. Another reason why red is popular in China is that it is always associated with Chinese revolution and the communist party. However, red is not often represented as fortune or joy. Once upon a time, the dead person’s name was written in red ink, therefore it is regarded as an offensive behavior to write someone’s name in red ink.
