【辨析】big, large 與 great：1. big 和 large 通常用于談?wù)撌挛锏拇笮。?/font>We have a big [large] house. 我們有一幢很大的房子。/ The elephant is the biggest [largest] animal in the zoo. 大象是動物圓里體形最大的動物。在現(xiàn)代英語中，一般不用 great 來指大小。偶有此用法，通常帶有感情色彩(如厭煩、恐懼、氣憤等)，含有大得出奇或給人印象很深之意：Look at that great hole in my trousers. 瞧我褲子上這個大洞(含有厭煩之意)。2. 形容人時，一般不用 large，可用 big，這樣用的 big 通常指身大體胖或輩分之大，若用于兒童則含有“長大成熟”之意：His children are big now. 他的孩子現(xiàn)在長大了。3. great 通常用于不可數(shù)的抽象名詞(即當它表示一般概念時)之前，此時不用 big 或 large，如：great courage(極大的勇氣), great importance(極為重要)等。另外，great 用于事物時也有“偉大的”之意：Beijing is a great city. 北京是一個偉大的城市。
