help 的用法很多 但是我們在大多時候可能會用幾種，下面我們給大家介紹幾種：

辨析：原譯是按照字面譯，聽起來非常別扭。這里有兩處需要注意:
第一，這里help是習慣用法，與“幫助”無關，而是常和can或cannot連用，表示“避免、阻止、忍耐”等意思，如：
I can't help it. 我沒有辦法/我一點沒轍。
(絕不能譯成“我不能幫助它”，這里it不特指某樣東西，而指“情況、局面、形勢”等。)也可以用被動語態(tài)：It can't be helped.誰也沒辦法/無計可施。句型短語cannot help doing something(忍不住/不得不)和cannot help but do something(只能)中的help也是此意，所以I cannot help coughing 是“我忍不住要咳嗽”的意思。
第二，more than在這里并不是真正的比較，而是表示含蓄或婉轉(zhuǎn)的否定，如：
It's more than I can tell you. 我(真的)不能告訴你。
(語氣要比I cannot tell you婉轉(zhuǎn)得多，含義“不是我本人不想告訴你，而是由于某種客觀原因我才不能告訴你”。)其它形容詞和副詞比較級也有類似用法，如：
He is wiser than saying that (=he is not so foolish as to say that).
他沒那么傻，不會那樣說/說那種話。
所以，綜合起來，原句可譯成：除非忍不住，盡量不要咳嗽。反之，在漢譯英時也應模仿這種地道的英語說法。
