Since debuting in the “Star Wars” spinoff “The Mandalorian,” the awww-inducing Baby Yoda has taken the Disney-verse by storm, spawning everything from plush toys to child car seat PSAs. Soon, the intergalactic gremlin could add another feather to its fame cap: a Baby Yoda emoji.
“Star Wars” fanatic Travis Bramble has posted a petition to Change.org, imploring Apple to add “the Child” to its Rolodex of emoticons. And his campaign appears to be gaining traction, garnering 11,000 signatures of the targeted 15,000.
“He stole our hearts and now I want him to steal our keyboard space,” writes Bramble of the potential emoji. “Your friend shares a pic of her newborn baby? Respond with a cute, little Baby Yoda emoji.”
It seems his fellow Star Warriors concur, posting responses of “Baby Yoda brings happiness to everyone no matter who they are” and “Baby Yoda would fit in any conversation.”
Note: Apple doesn’t make emoticons; they’re created by Unicode Consortium and then polished and produced by the tech firm, reports the Sun.
Regardless of whether Apple greenlights the cutest emoji, this galaxy is already saturated with Baby Yoda paraphernalia. Last week, a Funko Pop! facsimile of Baby Yoda surfaced at retailers. In a more humorous incident, the Rock used a meme of the diminutive mentor to troll his “Jumanji” co-star, Kevin Hart.
However, some worry that the “Star Wars” fandom could overdose on the googly-eyed space critter if not careful.
“Baby Yoda is cute, gorgeous, but I would warn the public that Baby Yoda is not just for Christmas. It’s a responsibility,” cautioned C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels in an interview with the Huffington Post.
