　　第二十章 知性--誠(chéng)則明，明則誠(chéng)

　　“自誠(chéng)明，謂之性。自明誠(chéng)，謂之教。誠(chéng)則明矣，明則誠(chéng)矣。

　　When we have intelligence resulting from sincerity, this condition is to be ascribed to nature; when we have sincerity resulting from intelligence, this condition is to be ascribed to instruction. But given the sincerity, and there shall be the intelligence; given the intelligence, and there shall be the sincerity.

　　【原文】

　　自誠(chéng)明(1)，謂之性;自明誠(chéng)，謂之教。誠(chéng)則(2)明矣，明則誠(chéng)矣。

　　【注釋】

　　(1)自：從，由。明：明白。(2)則：即，就。

　　【譯文】

　　由真誠(chéng)而自然明白道理，這叫做天性;由明白道理后做到真誠(chéng)，這叫做人為的教育。真誠(chéng)也就會(huì)自然明白道理，明白道理后 也就會(huì)做到真誠(chéng)。

　　【讀解】

　　無(wú)論是天性還是后天人為的教育，只要做到了真誠(chéng)，二者也 就合一了。

　　革命不分先后，明道向善不問(wèn)先天后天。從另一個(gè)角度看，這 里也表達(dá)了天人合一的思想。
