高二英語(yǔ)作文：Science and Human Life

 

          With the development of science, human life has changed tremendously. People living in the 18th or 19th centuries would never imagine the advanced household appliances we are now able to enjoy. Every aspect of our lives, for instance, in the field of medicine or agriculture has witnessed great improvements through the application of science.

 

         著科學(xué)的發(fā)展，人類的生活發(fā)生了巨大的變化。18世紀(jì)和19世紀(jì)的人無(wú)法想象我們現(xiàn)在所享用的家用器具。我們生活的各個(gè)方面，比如醫(yī)藥、農(nóng)業(yè)，都經(jīng)歷了科學(xué)所帶來(lái)的改善。

 

        However, many people complained that science has also brought disasters to human life. Some evil scientists have used their knowledge to do some illegal things. They may use science for the creation of weapons to destroy thousands of lives in wars. They might also use their knowledge to produce drugs to make a lot of money for themselves.

 

       然而，也有人抱怨科學(xué)帶給人類許多災(zāi)難。有些邪惡的科學(xué)家利用他們的知識(shí)做一些非法之事。他們用科學(xué)知識(shí)制造武器在戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)中摧毀成千上百的生命；他們用其知識(shí)制造毒品賺取錢財(cái)。

 

       Generally speaking, science has provided us with many valuable things. But if used wrongly, it can also lead to harm. We should try to keep science under control and put it to the best use of mankind.

 

        總的來(lái)說(shuō)，科學(xué)為我們帶來(lái)許多有價(jià)值的東西。但是一旦被錯(cuò)誤地使用，它也能導(dǎo)致傷害。我們應(yīng)該使之置于我們控制之下，使其為人類發(fā)揮出最大作用。

 

 

1. household appliances 家用設(shè)備

來(lái)舉幾個(gè)例子：washing machine 洗衣機(jī)，vacuum cleaner 吸塵器，microwave 微波爐

 

2. witness 做動(dòng)詞時(shí)有“目睹，見(jiàn)證，經(jīng)歷”的意思。

witness an accident, a murder, a quarrel 目擊一起事故、謀殺事件、一場(chǎng)爭(zhēng)吵

We were witnessing the most important scientific development of the century. 我們親眼見(jiàn)證本世紀(jì)最重要的科學(xué)進(jìn)展.

The year 1849 witnessed a great war in Hungary. 一八四九年匈牙利發(fā)生了一場(chǎng)大戰(zhàn)。

 

3. put sth. to use 將sth.加以利用

put sth. to the best use 最好/最大限度地利用，其他表達(dá)方式還有：make the best use of sth. ; take the best advantage of sth.等。
