雅思口語：如何解釋自己名字的含義

在雅思口語的Part 1中，考官經(jīng)常會問你這樣幾個問題：

What is your name?

Does your name have any special meaning?

Who gave you your name?

遇到這樣的問題，大家是不是感覺有點無從下手呢?畢竟這里面牽扯了很多文化層面的東西。提到文化我們就會感覺我們中華文化博大精深，解釋起來非常困難;而且我們自己的語言水平有限，解釋之后老外也可能會不明白。

其實大家大可不必有這樣的擔心，因為我們留學監(jiān)理網(wǎng)的老師會手把手教會你如何解釋自己名字的含義。

如果你叫姚明，那么你可以這樣去介紹：

My name is Ming the same as the Ming Dynasty which is one of the dynasties in China’s history. In Chinese language, ming means brightness, light, sunshine and intelligence. When my grandfather gave me this name, he wished me a wise mind and promising future.

如果你叫歐豪，那么你可以這樣回答考官：

My name is Hao which means an outstanding and heroic figure in Chinese. It is usually the grandparents or parents who give name to the new-born baby. And for me, my mother named me. She hoped that I could become a high-flier. As she has such a high expectation, I will do my best to make her proud.

如果你叫任賢齊，那么你在介紹自己的時候真的可以大做文章了：

My name Xianqi, which comes from China’s classic poem, given by my great grandfather who read all the famous classic works of literature. It means that a gentlemen always tries to equal and pull up to someone who does better than himself in different aspects of life. My great grandfather passed away when I was very little. I learned the meaning of my name when I was in primary school from my grandfather’s mouth. So I always think what I can learn from others to make myself a better person. It’s like a motto for me.

如果你叫黃曉明，那么雅思考官一定不會問你的名字是什么含義，而是會直接問下一個問題：

Would you spend a tremendous amount of money on a wedding?

當然了，如果你的名字不是自己家里人取得，而是找算命先生算的，那該如何表達呢?

You could say:

According to Chinese culture and superstition, name can affect your fortune, future and fate. When I was born, my grandmother went to a fortune-teller and ask him for a name. The fortune-teller wrote down several “good” names for me based on the theories of yin-yang(陰陽), five elements(五行), the date of birth and the eight characters of the horoscope(生辰八字). Then my parents chose the one, which is my name now, that they liked most.
