Todd在洛杉磯上學(xué)，趁著放寒假，要回阿拉斯加去和父母一塊兒過(guò)圣誕節(jié)。今天，他來(lái)到一家旅行社定機(jī)票。

Professor: Do you visit your parents on the holiday, Winnie?

當(dāng)然了，我可是孝順女兒呢！

Agent: Good afternoon sir, may I help you?

Todd: Yes, I need to buy a ticket from Los Angeles to the capitol of Alaska.

Agent: Alright, when would you like to leave?

Todd: I would like to leave December 24th and return January 3rd.

圣誕節(jié)是12月25號(hào)，Todd要訂24號(hào)飛阿拉斯加的機(jī)票，這可夠趕的，萬(wàn)一飛機(jī)晚點(diǎn)，他就趕不上和家人過(guò)平安夜了。

Professor: Well if his flight is delayed, maybe he could ask Santa Claus for a ride home.

搭圣誕老人的車？哈哈，這可是個(gè)好主意！ Todd還說(shuō)，他要1月3號(hào)飛回洛杉磯，這樣好，可以在新年夜盡情狂歡后休息一下再出發(fā)！

Agent: Do you want a direct flight?

Todd: Yes, I want to fly non-stop.

Agent: Alright, the cheapest direct flight is $500.

Todd: Are there any cheaper flights?

Agent: Yes, there is a connecting flight with one layover for $400.

Professor: Winnie, do you know what a layover is?

知道啊，如果你坐的不是直達(dá)航班direct或是non-stop flight，而是要中途轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)的話，這個(gè)轉(zhuǎn)機(jī)就是layover, layover.

Professor: Yes. For example, you can say you had a three-hour layover in Chicago when you flew to New York.

嗯，旅行社告訴Todd說(shuō)，直飛票要500塊，有一個(gè)layover的便宜些，400塊。不知道Todd會(huì)買哪種。

Todd: Well, I'll take the direct flight.

Agent: Where would you like to sit?

Todd: Is there an aisle seat available?

Agent: No, there is only a window seat.

Todd: Alright, I'll take the window seat.

Professor: Winnie, do you like sitting in the window seat or the aisle seat?

Window seat就是靠窗的座位，aisle seat則是靠過(guò)道的座位。我倒是無(wú)所謂，坐哪兒都行，不過(guò)千萬(wàn)別有個(gè)大哭大鬧的孩子坐在我旁邊！

Professor: Yes, I really hate it when there is a crying baby near me on a plane. I can never fall asleep.

Agent: Would you like to fly first-class?

Todd: How much does a first-class ticket cost?

Agent: A first-class ticket is $3,000.

Todd: Umm ... I think I'll just fly in the economy class.

頭等艙要三千塊??！比經(jīng)濟(jì)艙貴好幾倍！Professor Bowman，你知道嗎，我的夢(mèng)想就是，有朝一日發(fā)了財(cái)，一定要到頭等艙過(guò)把癮！

Professor: Well, there is another way to reach your dream. You could earn frequent flyer miles.

Frequent flyer miles? 就是常飛客積攢的里程數(shù)吧？對(duì)！這也是個(gè)好辦法，可以用里程換積分，攢夠了升級(jí)坐頭等艙！

Professor: Yes! You know, sometimes people also call economy class "coach."

哦，原來(lái)economy class和coach都是經(jīng)濟(jì)艙的意思，不過(guò)要我說(shuō)啊，叫“沙丁魚艙”更合適！

Todd: What if I need to cancel my trip for some reason? Can I get a refund?

Agent: You can get a refund if you cancel your trip one day before you leave.

Todd: What if I need to cancel my trip at the last minute?

Agent: In that case, the tickets are non-refundable.

Professor Bowman, 什么叫 at the last minute？

Professor: If you did something as late as possible, you can say you did it at the last minute. For example, "I wasn't going to give any homework at the end of class, but then I changed my mind at the last minute."

哦，就是到最后一分鐘才臨時(shí)決定做什么事。旅行社的人說(shuō)，Todd如果在出發(fā)當(dāng)天才突然改變主意，就不能退票了?？磥?lái)他還在猶豫到底是不是要回家，所以才會(huì)問(wèn)退票的事吧？
