中國(guó)人最易誤解的話第6期:狗也會(huì)是酩酊大醉嗎?

　　Even a hair of dog didn't make him feel better.

　　(誤譯)即使一根狗毛也不會(huì)使他覺(jué)得好些。

　　(正譯)即使是再喝解宿醉的一杯酒，也不會(huì)使他覺(jué)得好些。

　　A Hair of Dog的來(lái)由

　　朋友喝得酩酊大醉，而且醉了一宿，有什么解酒妙方嗎?有，解方就是the hair of the dog (that bit you)。乍聽(tīng)起來(lái)，這二者好象風(fēng)馬牛不相及。

　　這個(gè)短語(yǔ)的本意是，如果被狗咬傷了，咬傷的部位必須得用從咬人的那條狗身上的狗毛來(lái)治療?，F(xiàn)在，The(A)hair of the dog (that bit you)已經(jīng)成為一種幽默的用法，指用來(lái)解宿醉的酒(an alcoholic drink taken inthe morning because it is said to cure illness caused by drinking too much alcohol the nightbefore.)

　　《底特律自由新聞》1888年里面一段引語(yǔ)中的用法那樣，“dog”并非一定指烈酒(liquor)：

　　TRAVIS: "Hello, De Smith! You're looking better than expected. I understood that you werecompletely crushed by that love affair. How did you recover?"

　　DE SMITH: "Hair of the dog that bit me. Fell in love with another girl."

　　顯然，這里的“dog”就是指“女孩”了。所以如果你喝錯(cuò)了什么，用錯(cuò)了什么，后來(lái)又要用同樣的東西做解藥，你都可以說(shuō)The(A) hair of the dog (that bit you).

　　酩酊大醉：

　　He is dead drunk, and can not drive home. 他酩酊大醉，沒(méi)法開(kāi)車回家。

　　The men who seek intoxicating cups are men who invite their fates. 那些想喝得酩酊大醉的人是向命運(yùn)挑戰(zhàn)的人。
