二、連接名詞性從句的從屬連詞

1.that

（1）不充當(dāng)句子成分，沒有詞義，在句中只起連接作用。

He replied that he was going by train.

他回答說他將坐火車去。（that引導(dǎo)賓語從句）

That Jane let out the news annoyed all of us.

簡泄漏消息的事使我們都不高興。（that引導(dǎo)主語從句）

（2）that引導(dǎo)賓語從句時常常省略。

I don’t think （that）he will come.我想他不會來。

（3）that引導(dǎo)主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句時不可省略。

It’s clear that they badly need help.很明顯，他們急需援助。

The reason is that he has not passed the exam.原因是他考試沒有及格。

The difficulty lies in the fact that we are short of money.困難在于我們?nèi)狈Y金。

2.if，whether

（1）引導(dǎo)賓語從句表示“是否”時，兩者?？苫Q。

He asked if/whether we wanted a drink.他問我們是否想喝一杯。

He didn’t tell me if/whether he would come.他沒有告訴我他是否會來。

（2）引導(dǎo)主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句時，用whether不用if。

Whether it is true remains a question.那是不是真的還是個問題。（主語從句）

The question is whether it is true.問題是那是不是真的。（表語從句）

We have a doubt whether it is true.我們懷疑那是不是真的。（同位語從句）

【提示】 引導(dǎo)主語從句放在主句之后時可用if來代替。

It is unclear whether/if he likes the present.他是不是喜歡那個禮物還不清楚。

（3）在動詞不定式之前時用whether不用if。

I’m not sure whether to stay or leave.我不知是留還是去。

I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.我真是哭笑不得。

（4）用whether ...or not連接讓步狀語從句，或與 or 連用連接兩個從句時，用whether。

Whether he agrees or not，I shall do that.不管他同意與否，我都要那樣做。

I will write to you whether or not I can come.我能不能來，我將寫信告訴你。

I don’t know whether he is wrong or she is wrong.我不知道是他錯了，還是她錯了。

（5）用于介詞之后時，用whether不用if。

It depends on whether the letter arrives in time.這取決于信是否來得及時。

I worry about whether I hurt her feelings.我擔(dān)心是否傷了她的感情。

（6）if表示“是否”在句中可能產(chǎn)生歧義時，用whether不用if。
