The View star and former Donald Trump associate Alyssa Farah Griffin did not take a little time to enjoy the view from inside the White House every time her former boss tweeted.
Griffin appeared on stage Monday night in New York City alongside her former White House colleague Cassidy Hutchinson as part of the 92NY Recanati-Kaplan Talks program. The View cohost interviewed the Enough tell-all book author about their time together working for one of the most controversial presidential administrations in history — and life on the other side.
"It was a chaotic 2020, Trump was neck-and-neck in the polls, COVID hit our shores, we had a chaotic response effort to COVID, we had the social-justice protests in the summer of 2020 after George Floyd's murder. You had a principal in Donald Trump, who was reckless and unpredictable and often unhinged in the language he used. We saw it every day in the West Wing," Griffin said of her time working for Trump before resigning in December 2020. "The most common thing would be, we'd all get alerts when he'd tweet, and it was like, everything we'd planned, or he'd just spread a conspiracy theory, whatever it might be." (Trump's office did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.)
Griffin went on to praise Hutchinson — who worked for Chief of Staff Mark Meadows before testifying during the House investigation into the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021 — for recognizing "how dangerous Donald Trump is" in hindsight.
She later asked Hutchinson to look ahead to the 2024 presidential election, which sees Trump as the leading contender for the Republican nomination.
"I struggle to speculate and hypothesize that he will be the Republican nominee, because I think it's the responsibility of every American to make sure his name is not on the Republican ticket," Hutchinson said. "I was on the inside, I was a Trump supporter, I worked for him loyally. And now, having this period of reflection and come full circle with people like Alyssa in my corner... Donald Trump, for years, has shown us who he is. Many people's eyes were opened to those dangers before mine were, but now mine are, and I have the firsthand account of what he's capable of doing — what we was capable of doing, and what he continues to be capable of doing. If Donald Trump were to be elected to a second term in office, I fear for the future of our country, I fear for the future of our democracy."
Griffin, who worked on Trump's communications team, added that "we should be scared" if Trump is elected to a second term, given the multiple indictments he's currently facing.
Hutchinson and Griffin bonded after they both left the conservative circle under the former president. Though both are still Republicans, they've long criticized Trump and his followers, particularly with regard to his actions leading up to the Jan. 6 insurrection.
Griffin became a permanent cohost on The View in 2022, with Ana Navarro joining her as the permanent panelists filling the Hot Topics table's conservative seat vacated by Meghan McCain, who left the program one year prior.
Hutchinson previously appeared on The View earlier this year, where she discussed her time at the White House and the ramifications she felt after criticizing Trump.
