Simu Liu is proving that he's a diehard Swiftie.
After being announced as the host of this year's People's Choice Awards, the Shang-Chi star gave a little tease of what fans can expect from his emceeing style — and it doesn't include roasting Taylor Swift.
"There will be no Taylor slander at the 2024 PCAs that's a personal guarantee," Liu wrote on social media Thursday. Liu has been open about his admiration for Swift in the past, tweeting about his experience attending the Eras Tour in Seattle last year and opening up to Jimmy Kimmel about attending the premiere of Swift's concert film.
Liu's cheeky comment came after Golden Globes host Jo Koy made headlines on Sunday for a joke about Swift that didn't really land — with the audience or with Swift. Referring to all the air time she gets when she attends boyfriend and NFL tight end Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs games, Koy quipped, "As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift."
The camera, of course, panned to Swift, who appeared to be unamused by the crack. The Grammy winner remained extremely straight-faced and took a sip of her drink. It was unclear whether Koy could see Swift's face or if it was all a gag Swift was in on, but he was quick to move on, uttering, "Sorry about that," before continuing.
For his part, Koy has since conceded the joke was "weird" and fell "a little flat." When asked which moment during his hosting gig was particularly rough, he told Good Morning America, "I think it was when the Taylor one was just a little flat. It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL… I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn't have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn't come out that way."
