[13:07.19]It takes place on Peking rooftops and in the deserts of western China.
[13:13.43]It is a martial arts film that tells the story of a stolen sword,
[13:18.26]and the fight to get it back.
[13:21.26]It tells the story of two people who love each other.
[13:28.51]Film Review: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
[13:35.22]Martial arts films are often enjoyable but they are seldom great art.
[13:41.50]Now, to everyone's surprise, Ang Lee, director of a number of excellent films,
[13:48.40]has made a martial arts film called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
[13:54.31]The result is a masterpiece.
[13:58.36]The film belongs to a type of Chinese story called wuxia.
[14:04.40]These stories tell of nineteenth- century martial arts masters
[14:09.63]with unusual abilities. Wuxia films are popular in China,
[14:16.44]and they are now popular in the west too.
[14:20.94]The story takes place in the early 1800s in China.
[14:26.15]A man and a woman, Li Mubai (played by Chow Yun-Fat)
[14:31.70]and Yu Xiulian (played by Michelle Yeoh),
[14:35.97]both masters of the martial arts, are in love with each other.
[14:41.38]But Xiulian had a fiance who has died.
[14:46.15]Because this fiance was a good friend of Mubai,
[14:50.16]Mubai feels that he cannot marry Xiulian.
[14:54.27]When someone steals Xiulian's sword, Mubai and Xiulian try to get it back.
[15:01.91]The action takes place on Peking rooftops,
[15:05.69]and in places as far away as the deserts of western China.
[15:11.00]As in the old wuxia stories, characters leap through the air every now and then,
[15:17.04]with beautiful, graceful movements, while audiences shout in surprise.
[15:24.68]Unusually, it is the female characters that interest us most.
[15:30.13]Brave, good and strong, Xiulian is the character we care about most.
[15:36.81]Beautiful Zhang Ziyi plays the part of Yu Jiaolong,
[15:41.88]a young woman who is not as good as she seems.
[15:46.18]The fight scenes between Jiaolong and Xiulian
[15:49.75]are some of the most exciting moments in modern cinema.
[15:53.77]But one cannot forget the wonderful Chow Yun-Fat,
[15:57.83]who is as good with a sword as he is with a gun.
[16:01.84]His romantic scenes with Yu Xiulian are very moving,
[16:07.15]as their eyes show all the love that they must not express in words.
[16:14.93]Films like this rarely reach the cinema.
[16:18.40]Go and see Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon.
[16:21.51]It will make your heart leap with excitement at its beauty.

[45:00.40]That's a crazy thing to say. They can't print lies. It's against the law
[45:05.78]Well, I still don't believe that a Daily Star journalist would invent news.
[45:10.84]And I certainly don't believe a tabloid article.
[45:14.11]So you think the article was a lie?
[45:16.65]No. I think the tabloids only print part of the truth.
[45:21.36]But that's as bad as giving false information.
[45:24.77]They do it to make their articles more interesting and sell more copies.
[45:30.04]Look at the article about the man who saw aliens on the moon.
[45:34.22]In the tabloid, The World Today, the article didn't give all the facts.
[45:39.11]It just said there were aliens on the moon.
[45:42.16]And it was on the front page. That's not surprising.
[45:46.33]It was an interesting news item.
[45:48.79]I certainly found it interesting. You can't be serious!
[45:52.52]I can't believe you said that! You don't believe in aliens, do you?
[45:57.63]Aliens definitely do not exist! At least in the Daily Star,
[46:01.89]the journalist wrote that not many people believed the man
[46:05.28]because no one else saw the aliens. I didn't say I believed in aliens,
[46:10.19]I said it was an interesting article.
[46:12.88]It was very amusing and entertaining and I enjoyed reading it.
[46:17.93]I mean that's what the tabloids are about, really
[46:21.10]They're just a cheap form of entertainment.
[46:23.92]You don't have to take them so seriously.
[46:26.70]You must be joking! You may not believe what's in them
[46:30.63]but millions of other people do. That's a really dangerous attitude.
[46:35.63]Anyway, I don't believe you are serious.
[46:41.84]15.Listen again and decide who holds these opinions, the man(M)or the woman
[46:51.97]Have you read the article about the journalist who made up false news?
[46:56.70]Which one is that?
[46:58.38]The one with the headline "Bad News" in the World Today tabloid newspaper.
[47:04.23]Oh, yes,I've read it So do you think it's true? It's a crazy idea!
[47:09.84]That sort of thing doesn't happen at the Daily Star.
[47:13.01]I mean,it's a quality newspaper. I don't believe a word of it!
[47:17.40]Oh, come on! Why don't you believe it?
[47:20.81]Stranger things have happened, you know. It's quite possible.
[47:25.13]As the editor of the Daily Star said,
[47:28.05]you shouldn't believe everything you read in the newspapers.
[47:31.50]That's a crazy thing to say. They can't print lies. It's against the law
