[00:00.26] Once I got around the cafeteria, building three was easy to spot. 一到自助餐廳，3號樓一眼就可以看到了。 [00:04.27] A large black" 3" was painted on a white square on the east corner. 東邊的角上有一個白色的方塊，方塊上用黑漆寫著偌大的一個"3"字。 [00:09.07] I felt my breathing gradually creeping toward hyperventilation as I approached the door. 快到門口時，我覺得自己的呼吸漸漸有點急促了。 [00:13.22] I tried holding my breath as I followed two unisex raincoats through the door. 我跟在兩個穿著男女皆宜的雨披的學(xué)生后面走進(jìn)教室時，我盡力屏住了呼吸。 [00:19.12] The classroom was small. 教室不大。 [00:21.11] The people in front of me stopped just inside the door to hang up their coats on a long row of hooks. 我前面的那兩個人一跨過門就停了下來，把雨衣掛在了一長排鉤子上。 [00:26.27] I copied them. 我也跟著她們那樣做了。 [00:28.11] They were two girls, one a porcelain colored blonde, the other also pale, with light brown hair. 那是兩個女孩子，一個是棕紅皮膚、金發(fā)碧眼，另一個皮膚也很蒼白，一頭閃亮的褐發(fā)。 [00:34.21] At least my skin would not be a standout here. 起碼，我的皮膚不會很顯眼了。 [00:37.54] I took the slip up to the teacher, a tall, balding man whose desk had a nameplate identifying him as Mr. Mason. 我把紙片拿上去交給了老師，一個高個子、禿頂?shù)哪欣蠋?，他在講臺上放了一張名牌，寫明自己是梅森先生。 [00:44.31] He gawked at me when he saw my name ?not an encouraging response ?and of course I flushed tomato red. 看到我的名字后，他呆呆地看著我——不是什么鼓勵的反應(yīng)——我自然刷地一下子紅了臉，紅得跟番茄似的。 [00:52.41] But at least he sent me to an empty desk at the back without introducing me to the class. 不過至少，他沒有把我介紹給全班同學(xué)，直接把我打發(fā)到后面的一張空著的課桌上去了。 [00:56.27] It was harder for my new classmates to stare at me in the back, but somehow,they managed. 坐在后面，增大了我的這班新同學(xué)盯著我看的難度，但是無論如何他們還是做到了。 [01:03.23] I kept my eyes down on the reading list the teacher had given me. 我一直低著頭，看著老師發(fā)給我的閱讀書目清單， [01:06.31] It was fairly basic: Bronte, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Faulkner. 都是相當(dāng)基礎(chǔ)的：勃朗特、莎士比亞、喬叟、?？思{。 [01:11.42] I 'd already read everything. 我全都讀過了。 [01:13.36] That was comforting...and boring. 這很令我欣慰……同時又讓我覺得厭煩無聊。 [01:16.45] I wondered if my mom would send me my folder of old essays, or if she would think that was cheating. 我不知道我媽媽會不會把我原來寫的那一夾子論文給我寄過來，或者說不知道她會不會認(rèn)為那是作弊。 [01:22.11] I went through different arguments with her in my head while the teacher droned on. 老師嗡嗡嗡地講他的課時，我在腦子里跟我媽媽進(jìn)行了各種各樣的爭論。
