“然后你做了什么?”一分鐘以后，他問道。
"I did some research on the Internet.""And did thatconvince you?" His voice sounded barely interested.But his hands were clamped hard onto the steeringwheel.
“我在網(wǎng)上搜索了一下。”“那證實了你的猜想嗎?”他的聲音聽起來僅僅是感興趣。但他的手緊緊地鉗握住了方向盤。
"No. Nothing fit. Most of it was kind of silly. And then…" I stopped.
“不。沒有相符的內(nèi)容。大多數(shù)內(nèi)容都有點愚蠢。然后……”我停了下來。
"What?""I decided it didn't matter," I whispered.
“什么?”“我決定了，這無關(guān)緊要。”我低語道。
"It didn't matter?" His tone made me look up — I had finally broken through his carefullycomposed mask. His face was incredulous, with just a hint of the anger I'd feared.
“這無關(guān)緊要?”他的語氣讓我抬起頭來——我最終打破了他小心翼翼地維持著的假面具。他的臉上寫滿了懷疑，還帶著一絲讓我害怕的憤怒。
"No," I said softly. "It doesn't matter to me what you are."A hard, mocking edge entered hisvoice. "You don't care if I'm a monster?If I'm not human!"
“是的。”我柔聲說道。“不管你是什么，這對我來說都無關(guān)緊要。”生硬和嘲弄的色彩滲進了他的聲音。“即使我是個怪物你也不在乎?即使我不是人類!”
"No."He was silent, staring straight ahead again. His face was bleak and cold.
“我不在乎。”他沉默了，又一次直視著前方。他的神情陰暗而冷漠。
"You're angry," I sighed. "I shouldn't have said anything.""No," he said, but his tone was ashard as his face. "I'd rather know what you're thinking — even if what you're thinking isinsane.""So I'm wrong again?" I challenged.
“你生氣了。”我嘆息道。“我本來應(yīng)該什么也不說的。”“不。”他說道，但他的聲音和他的表情一樣生硬。“我很想知道你在想什么——即使你的想法愚蠢透頂。”“所以我又錯了?”我挑釁道。
"That's not what I was referring to. 'It doesn't matter'!" he quoted,gritting his teeth together.
“我不是在說這個。‘這無關(guān)緊要’!”他引述著我的話，咬緊了牙關(guān)。
