“差遠(yuǎn)了——但你爸爸很快就要到家了。”
"Charlie!" I suddenly recalled his existence, andsighed. I looked out at the rain-darkened sky, but itgave nothing away. "How late is it?" I wondered outloud as I glanced at the clock. I was surprised by thetime — Charlie would be driving home now.
“查理!”我忽然意識到他的存在，然后嘆了口氣。我看著車外陰雨綿綿的天空，但它沒有泄露任何信息。“現(xiàn)在多晚了?”我一邊大聲問道，一邊瞥了一眼時鐘。我震驚地看到已經(jīng)是這個時候了——查理現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)在開車回家的路上了。
"It's twilight," Edward murmured, looking at the western horizon, obscured as it was withclouds. His voice was thoughtful, as if his mind were somewhere far away. I stared at him as hegazed unseeingly out the windshield.
“現(xiàn)在正是暮色時分。”愛德華喃喃低語著，看著西邊的地平線，那里被云層覆蓋著，晦明不定。他的聲音顯得心事重重，仿佛他的思緒正在千里之外。我看著他，他向擋風(fēng)玻璃外看去，卻根本不在看任何東西。
I was still staring when his eyes suddenly shifted back to mine.
我一直注視著他，直到他的目光忽然轉(zhuǎn)回來，對上了我的眼睛。
"It's the safest time of day for us," he said, answering the unspoken question in my eyes. "Theeasiest time. But also the saddest, in a way… the end of another day, the return of the night.Darkness is so predictable, don't you think?" He smiled wistfully.
“對我們來說，這是一天之中最安全的時候。”他說道，回答了我眼中未說出口的疑問。“最容易的時刻。但從某種意義上說，也是最傷感的……又一天的結(jié)束，夜晚再度降臨。黑暗如此容易預(yù)測，你不這樣認(rèn)為嗎?”他想望地微笑著。
"I like the night. Without the dark, we'd never see the stars." I frowned. "Not that you see themhere much."
“我喜歡夜晚。沒有黑暗，我們就永遠(yuǎn)看不到星辰了。”我皺起眉。“不過在這里很難看到星星。”
He laughed, and the mood abruptly lightened.
他大笑著，氣氛驟然輕松起來。
"Charlie will be here in a few minutes. So, unless you want to tell him that you'll be with meSaturday…" He raised one eyebrow.
“查理還有幾分鐘就要到這兒了。那么，除非你想告訴他周六你會和我一起……”他挑起一側(cè)眉頭。
"Thanks, but no thanks." I gathered my books, realizing I was stiff from sitting still so long. "Sois it my turn tomorrow, then?"
“謝謝，但不必了，謝謝。”我把書收起來，意識到自己因為坐得太久已經(jīng)有些僵直了。“那么，明天輪到我了?”
