[00:06.00]Lesson 3 Teachers
[00:09.79]My Inspiration
[00:11.92]Graham Lawrence,29,science author
[00:14.47]and TV presenter,
[00:15.85]went to Overton Comprehensive,1981-89
[00:21.31]I haven't seen Mr.Jenkins sice I left school
[00:23.88]but he was my inspirtation.
[00:26.72]I wasn't very good at most school subjects.
[00:29.38]I suppose I was a bit lazy
[00:31.34]and now I wish I'd done a bit more work,
[00:33.03]especially in languages.
[00:34.85]But when I went into Mr.Jenkins's science class
[00:37.34]to prepare for my GCSEs,
[00:39.38]I really became interested in a subject
[00:41.38]for the first time.
[00:43.92]Mr.Jenkins was full of enthusiasm
[00:46.32]and made everything interesting,
[00:48.66]I wish my French teachers had been the same!
[00:51.55]He used to demonstrate things
[00:52.78]with lots practicalexamples.
[00:54.74]One day he took us outside
[00:56.04]and we built a rocket.
[00:57.28]It was great fun.
[00:59.43]I wasn't particularly willing and cooperative
[01:02.06]student at school.
[01:03.63]I know I shouldn't have been so rebellious,
[01:05.39]but it was probably because I lacked confidence
[01:09.24]Mr Jenkins made me feel that I could do things.
[01:12.70]I was interested in astronomy,
[01:14.55]and he asked me to give a lesson to the class.
[01:17.27]That was really the first time I ever tried
[01:18.92]to explain science to an audience.
