[00:02.34]Let's see how sight and hearing work.

[00:05.66]The areas of the brain related to controlling

[00:08.25]sight and hearing could be compared

[00:10.41]to film studios

[00:11.82]which make a constant film

[00:13.42]and soundtrack of what's happening around us.

[00:16.11]It is not our ears that listen,

[00:18.05]but our brains. It is not our eyes that see,

[00:21.11]but our brains.

[00:22.52]Our eyes and ears send signals all the time,

[00:25.21]and it is our brain

[00:26.04]that interprets these signals

[00:27.95]and builds up a picture of the outside world...

[00:31.41]Of course, there are other areas of the brian

[00:33.44]that scientists have identified,

[00:35.46]areas responsible for different emotions,

[00:37.29]for example.Did you know that you all have

[00:40.58]an area for fear, for love, for laughter.

[00:43.76]You have different areas

[00:45.14]for different kinds of thinking.

[00:46.83]For example, you have one area for your first

[00:49.37]language and another area

[00:51.14]for a foreign language that you learn

[00:53.11]when you are older.

[00:54.62]Interesting, isn't it?

[00:57.23]But even more interesting than locating

[00:59.15]different areas of the brain is...

[01:05.44]Exercise 3 Listen to the lesson again

[01:08.76]and answer the questions.
