3. Creation/Destruction (1)

1) Did you watch the new office building being built?
   你看過在建設(shè)中的新的辦公樓嗎？
   * office 之后之所以接 being built，主要因?yàn)槭侵浮霸诮ㄔO(shè)中”。

2) The racer's car burst into flames just as he had crawled out.
   當(dāng)賽車手爬出車子后不久，汽車就爆炸燃燒了起來。
   * burst 是爆炸的意思，有強(qiáng)調(diào)其突然和猛烈的作用。

3) Insecticides destroy many harmful bugs.
   殺蟲劑能驅(qū)除許多害蟲。
   * destroy 是被滅盡、撲滅，和 damage 等不同，具有完全破壞之意。

4) The young wheat sprouted quickly after the rain.
   雨后，新鮮的麥芽迅速的長了出來。
   * sprout 用于指植物長出新芽。
   e.g. Brussels sprout.  芽孢。

5) Eugene could create beautiful images with his paints.
   尤金能夠把美麗的形象用畫筆畫出來。

6) Slowly, mountains are worn away by the wind.
   山體逐漸被風(fēng)化了。
   * 使用 wear 表示疲倦時(shí)，可以用“I'm worn out.”表達(dá)。

7) The chemist discovered a new synthetic material.
   化學(xué)家發(fā)現(xiàn)了新的復(fù)合物質(zhì)。
   * discover 除了 find out 以外，也有“知道”的意思。
   e.g. I discovered I was wrong.
        我知道我錯(cuò)了。（這是一個(gè)常用句）
 
8) Don't drop that bottle on the floor.
   別讓那只瓶子掉到地上。

9) He uses clay to form images of people.
   他利用粘土造各種的人像。
   * organize, construct, constitute 等和 create 具有同樣意思，但并不含有創(chuàng)造性的意義。
