This man, he pointed accusingly at Bernard, this man who stands before you here, this Alpha-Plus to whom so much has been given, and from whom, in consequence, so much must beexpected, this colleague of yours—or should I anticipate and say this 'excolleague'—hasgrossly betrayed the trust imposed in him.

By his heretical views on sport and soma, by the scandalous unorthodoxy of his sex-life, byhis refusal to obey the teachings of Our Ford and behave out of office hours, even as a littleinfant,(here the Director made the sign of the T), he has proved himself an enemy of Society, asubverter, ladies and gentlemen, of all Order and Stability, a conspirator against Civilizationitself.

由于他對(duì)體育運(yùn)動(dòng)和唆麻的異教徒式的觀點(diǎn);由于他的性生活的恬不知恥的離經(jīng)叛道，由于他拒絕了我主福帝在下班之后行為要‘恰如嬰兒’的教導(dǎo)(說(shuō)到這兒主任畫了一個(gè)T字)，他已經(jīng)證明了自己成了社會(huì)的公敵，是一切秩序和安定的顛覆者，女士們，先生們，是對(duì)抗文明的陰謀家。

The Director paused; then, folding his arms, he turned impressively to Bernard.

主任住了口，交叉了雙手，威風(fēng)凜凜地轉(zhuǎn)向了伯納。

"Marx," he said, "can you show any reason why I should not now execute the judgment passedupon you?"

他說(shuō)：“伯納，你能夠提出理由反對(duì)我執(zhí)行對(duì)你的處分嗎?”

"Yes, I can," Bernard answered in a very loud voice.

“是的，我能夠。”伯納用非常響亮的聲音回答。

Somewhat taken aback, but still majestically, "Then show it," said the Director.

主任多少嚇了一跳，但仍然神氣十足，“那你就提出來(lái)吧。”

"Certainly. But it's in the passage. One moment." Bernard hurried to the door and threw itopen.

“當(dāng)然要提出來(lái)，但我的理由還在走道里，請(qǐng)稍候。”伯納匆匆走到門邊，甩開了門。

"Come in," he commanded, and the reason came in and showed itself.

“進(jìn)來(lái)。”他命令道，那“理由”便走了進(jìn)來(lái)，露出了它的形象。
