  When the settlers arrived at their destination they began to work.

  當(dāng)移居者抵達(dá)目的地時(shí),他們開(kāi)始工作。

  They began to build a home and plant crops.

  他們開(kāi)始建造房屋,種植作物。

  The home was usually made of logs. It was called a log cabin.

  房屋通常由原木構(gòu)成,被稱作為原木小屋。

  It was a small home with one or two rooms.

  The settlers made the furniture. They used logs to made tables, chairs and beds.

  Men, women and children planted crops.

  Corn and wheat were important crops.

  The settlers ate a lot of corn.

  The men hunted buffalo and other animals.

  Men, women and children worked all day. There was little free time.

  There were no shops on the frontier.

  The settlers bought somethings from Fort Laramie and Fort Bridger.

  Some women brought a spinning wheel to the frontier.

  These women made yarn. They used yarn to make clothes.

  Illness was a big danger on the frontier.

  There were no hospitals, few doctors and very little medicine!

  Many people died at a young age.

  Most settlers lived far from churches.

  The "circuit rider" was a religious man. He traveled on the frontier.

  Settlers often waited months for the "circuit rider".

  Who were the frontier people?

  The frontier people came from the East, the South and the Indiana Territory.

  They also came from Europe, Scandinavia and China!

  他們還來(lái)自歐洲、斯堪的納維亞和中國(guó)!

  Most settlers were honest people but some were outlaws.

  多數(shù)移居者是誠(chéng)實(shí)的人,但也有一些不法之徒。

  Some of them wanted excitement and adventure.

  他們中的一些人渴望刺激和冒險(xiǎn)。

  Frontier people were strong and courageous.

  邊疆的人們強(qiáng)壯又勇敢。

  They loved the freedom and adventure of the frontier.

  他們熱愛(ài)邊疆的自由和冒險(xiǎn)精神。

  They were true American free spirits.

  他們是真正美國(guó)人的自由之魂。

  Villages and towns began to grow on the frontier. Some became important cities.

  在邊疆上,村莊和城鎮(zhèn)開(kāi)始不斷發(fā)展,其中一些變成了重要的城市。
