 　　They had no wish to be ruled by a Persian king, nor would they pay him tribute.So they rebelled, and threw out the Persian governors.

　　他們既不愿意被波斯國(guó)王統(tǒng)治也不愿意向他納貢，所以他們起來(lái)造反并把波斯官員趕走。

　　In this they were supported by the Greeks in the motherland, the original founders1 of the colonies,

　　當(dāng)初建立了這些殖民地的本土上的希臘人，

　　and in particular by the Athenians, who sent them ships.

　　特別是雅典人支持他們并給他們派去船只。

　　Never before had the king of Persia, the King of Kings – for that was his title – been so insulted.

　　這位波斯王，這位王中之王——這是他的稱號(hào)從來(lái)沒(méi)有受到過(guò)這樣的侮辱。

　　That this insignificant2 tribe, these nobodies, should dare to challenge him, the ruler of the world!

　　He dealt with the Ionian cities in Asia Minor3 in less than no time. But he wasn't finished yet.

　　他很快就平息了小亞細(xì)亞伊安尼爾城市的造反運(yùn)動(dòng)。但是他還不滿足于此。

　　He was furious with the Athenians for meddling4 in his affairs.

　　因?yàn)榱钏罡械脚豢啥舻氖茄诺淙耍?/p>

　　With the aim of destroying Athens and conquering Greece, he equipped a large fleet.

　　這些雅典人干涉了他的事務(wù)。為了消滅雅典人并占領(lǐng)希臘，他裝備一支龐大的艦隊(duì)。

　　But his ships were caught in a violent storm, dashed against the cliffs and sunk. At this his anger knew no bounds.

　　但是這支艦隊(duì)遇到一場(chǎng)風(fēng)暴，觸礁沉沒(méi)。他自然更加怒不可遏。
