　　In vain the captain threatened to throw himoverboard; suspended a cutlass over his nakedwrists; Queequeg was the son of a King, andQueequeg budged not.

　　船長徒勞地嚇唬著要把他拋進海里;還在他那赤裸裸的肘腕上架了一柄彎刀;可是,魁魁格是國王的兒子,魁魁格一點也不為所動。

　　Struck by his desperate dauntlessness, and his wilddesire to visit Christendom, the captain at lastrelented, and told him he might make himself athome.

　　那個船長被他這種奮不顧身的驍勇,被他那份要到文明人的國度去的熱望感動了,終于發(fā)了慈悲心,對他說,他可以安心留下來。

　　But this fine young savage-this sea Prince of Wales, never saw the Captain's cabin.

　　但是,這個漂亮的青年野人...這個海上的威爾斯王子卻從來沒有見到船長的艙室。

　　They put him down among the sailors, and made a whaleman of him.

　　But like Czar Peter content to toil in the shipyards of foreign cities, Queequeg disdained noseeming ignominy, if thereby he might happily gain the power of enlightening his untutoredcountrymen. For at bottom-so he told me-he was actuated by a profound desire to learnamong the Christians, the arts whereby to make his people still happier than they were; andmore than that, still better than they were.

　　不過,魁魁格象沙皇彼得情愿到國外的造船廠去做苦工一樣,他毫不蔑視這種不體面的事情,他只希望能夠愉快地獲得啟發(fā)他那些未受教育的同胞的力量.因為在他內(nèi)心里...他這樣跟我說...他為一個深切的愿望所驅(qū)使,想在文明人中間學得一些技藝,借此使他的同胞過得比原來更幸福,不僅如此,要過得比原來更好.
